“Mardi Gras” is the French translation for “Fat Tuesday”. It refers to the “final day of indulgence” before the start of Lent, when faithful Christians commit to fasting or giving up certain luxuries for 40 days and 40 nights as a form of penitence.

“Gaslamp Mardi Gras” is Southern California’s #1 Pre Mardi Gras Party Hop. It is day when revelers from around the globe band together (known as “krewe”) to indulge in a “last hurrah" before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

Q1. Will the streets be closed?

A1. Yes, Fifth Ave is closed to vehicular traffic on weekends and special holidays.

Q2. Is there a parade with floats?

A2. No, the Mardi Gras parade has not been active since 2018.

Q3. Will this event be indoor or outdoor?

A3. Gaslamp Mardi Gras showcases Gaslamp’s top venues hosting the top Mardi Gras parties. Many venues offer both indoor and outdoor options for drinking and dining.

However, drinking on the streets outside of the venues’ perimeters is still prohibited.

Q4. Will people be dressed up?

A4. Absolutely! Come don in purple, green and gold, boas, beads, capes and crowns!

Q5. Is this a 21+ event?

A5. Yes, it is.

Q6. Will I be required to wear a mask?

A6. Establishments will be following the health guidelines by the State of California and San Diego County. As of Jan 6, 2022, masks are not required outdoors and while consuming food and beverages indoors.

Q7. Is this Rain or Shine?

A7. All venues have covered spaces and are within walking distance, so rain is not really a factor. All sales are final.

Q8. What is the cancellation policy?

A8. In the event that you can no longer attend for any reason (including COVID), you can resell or transfer the ticket to another party free of charge.
